The first decision is not simply which hotel to choose. It is understanding which version of Thailand is right for you.
Bangkok can be a brilliant starting point, adding food, culture, rooftop views and a sense of energy before moving on to the coast. Chiang Mai and the north offer a slower cultural experience, with temples, countryside and a different pace altogether.
For beach time, the choice of region matters. Phuket offers strong hotel options and easy access, but different parts of the island can feel very different. Koh Samui has its own rhythm and works particularly well at certain times of year. Krabi and Phang Nga bring dramatic scenery, limestone cliffs and a strong sense of place. Smaller islands can feel more secluded, but they need to be matched carefully to the style of trip you want.
Once the right region has been identified, the hotel decision becomes much clearer. Thailand is at its best when the setting, service and pace all support the experience you have in mind.
