Time in one area
Many travellers choose a single area and settle in.

A stay in Ubud or on one of the southern beaches can offer plenty of variety within a small area, combining culture, wellness, dining and relaxation without the need to move around. It suits those who prefer a relaxed holiday, and works particularly well for couples and honeymooners.

Combining coast and countryside
Others combine two contrasting parts of the island.

A classic journey pairs a few nights in Ubud, for culture and wellness, with time on the coast to relax by the sea. The contrast between the green interior and the beaches is one of Bali’s great strengths, and the short distances make combinations easy.

The key is choosing areas that complement each other rather than trying to see the whole island.

Bali can be visited throughout much of the year, thanks to its warm, tropical climate, though there are two main seasons.

The dry season, from around April to October, is generally regarded as the best time to visit, with sunny days and lower humidity, ideal for beaches and outdoor exploration. The wet season, from around November to March, brings greener landscapes and fewer visitors, though rainfall increases, usually in short afternoon downpours.

The island is busiest around July, August and the year-end holidays.

The best time to travel depends on whether beach weather, quieter periods or value matter most.

Bali is best experienced without trying to see too much.

The island’s appeal lies in its atmosphere, its wellness and its natural beauty, all of which reward an unhurried pace. Moving too often, or packing in too many temples and sights, can dilute the sense of calm that makes Bali so special.

One or two well-chosen areas, with enough time to properly settle in, will usually create a richer holiday than constant movement. The aim is variety without losing the feeling of ease.
