Combining Hong Kong with elsewhere

Hong Kong also works exceptionally well as part of a wider Asia itinerary. It can be paired with Japan for a journey that combines two very different expressions of urban Asia. It connects naturally with Vietnam, Thailand, Bali or Sri Lanka as a first or final chapter. For travellers with more time, it can also serve as the gateway to mainland China.

These journeys need to feel balanced. Hong Kong’s pace is intense compared to beach resorts or quieter Asian destinations, so the order and rhythm of the wider trip should be thought through carefully.

The most comfortable time to visit Hong Kong is between October and March, when the air is clear, temperatures are cooler and conditions are well suited to walking, exploring and spending time outdoors.
October and November are particularly pleasant, with low humidity and good visibility. December through February can feel almost cool, especially in the evenings, and is a good time for city breaks, cultural visits and dining.

Spring brings increasing humidity and the occasional haze, while the summer months from June to September are hot, very humid and prone to typhoons. Summer can still work for resort-led stays and indoor experiences, but it is less suited to travellers who want to explore the city on foot.

For most journeys, the autumn and winter months offer the best conditions.
