Wild Coast Tented Lodge sits on a rugged, secluded beach where dense jungle meets the Indian Ocean, beside Yala National Park in southern Sri Lanka, part of the Resplendent Ceylon collection and a member of Relais & Chateaux. Accommodation is in striking cocoon-shaped tents, from cocoon suites to pool suites and family pool suites, with vaulted canvas-and-glass facades, copper bathtubs and an expedition-chic style, gathered around a woven, dome-shaped main building. Dining centres on the Ten Tuskers bar and restaurant, with Sri Lankan cuisine from local ingredients, plus wilderness dining and beach sundowners. There is a large free-form infinity pool, the Sanctuary Spa and a library. The draw is the wildlife: game drives in Yala in search of leopards, elephants and bears, with guided nature walks, birding at Bundala and a junior chef programme for children. It suits couples and families who want a safari and a wild beach in one, rather than a conventional hotel.
