May to September is generally the loveliest window, when the countryside is at its greenest, the gardens are in bloom and daylight stretches long into the evening. May and June are often the driest months of the year and wonderfully quiet ahead of peak summer. September holds onto glorious weather while the crowds thin out, and it’s a particularly good month for golf and country pursuits. Winter has its own magic too, perfect for guests drawn to open fires, dramatic coastal walks and a slower, cosier kind of trip.
