A Private Address Above Funchal

In downtown Funchal on Madeira, The Reserve is the suite-only hotel within Savoy Signature, with a dedicated personal assistant for every guest, a 17th floor infinity pool and rooftop club, and full access to the restaurants and spa at the Savoy Palace next door.

The quiet floor above a five star resort

The Reserve is Savoy Signature’s most exclusive address, occupying its own hotel alongside the Savoy Palace on Funchal’s seafront. Accommodation is rooms and suites only, most of them facing the Atlantic, running from Deluxe Rooms and Deluxe Suites through Corner Suites and Pool Suites to two and three bedroom suites and The Retreat.

What separates it is the service model. Every stay begins with a private airport meet and greet on arrival into Funchal, and every guest is assigned a Guest Experience Personal Assistant, available around the clock, who handles restaurant bookings, private experiences, celebrations and anything else the trip requires. On the 17th floor, the solarium, infinity pool and jacuzzi are reserved for guests of The Reserve alone, with the Jacarandá Club alongside for lunch, cocktails and long afternoons in the sun.

The rest of the Savoy Palace is then open to you, including its restaurants, its bars, its pools and the award winning Laurea Spa, so you get the range of a large resort with the discretion of a small one. It suits couples, honeymooners and anyone travelling for a particular occasion, based in the centre of Funchal with the island a short drive in any direction.

Dining

Dining begins at The Reserve with Nikkei, where Chef Bruno Borges works between Japanese technique and Madeiran produce for a contemporary Asian menu served against the view. The Jacarandá Club handles the daytime, from snacks by the pool to a full lunch, with a mixologist on hand once the afternoon turns.

Beyond that, the Savoy Palace’s restaurants are open to you, which is a considerable list: the rooftop Galaxia Skyfood for the tasting menu and the Skybar alongside it, Pau de Lume for meat and fish cooked over fire, Orchidaceae Atelier for Italian and Mediterranean cooking, the contemporary Alameda, and Hibiscus for the buffet with live show cooking. Your personal assistant books the lot, and can arrange private dining and bespoke menus built around Madeiran flavours.

Facilities and experiences

  • A 17th floor rooftop with an infinity pool, jacuzzi and solarium, exclusive to guests of The Reserve.
  • The Jacarandá Club, a private leisure area with its own restaurant, bar and solarium.
  • A Guest Experience Personal Assistant on call 24 hours a day.
  • Private airport meet and greet on arrival in Funchal.
  • Full access to the Savoy Palace next door, including its restaurants, bars and pools.
  • The Laurea Spa, inspired by the Laurissilva forest, with a water circuit and gym.
  • Access to selected facilities at other Savoy Signature hotels across the island.
  • Rooms and suites with Atlantic and Funchal bay views, several with private pools.
  • Tailor made island experiences arranged through your assistant, from levada walks to private boat charters.

Why we recommend The Reserve

We recommend The Reserve because the personal assistant comes with every guest rather than only the top suites, and because the rooftop pool and club are reserved for a small number of people. It gives you the full range of the Savoy Palace next door without staying in a large resort, along with Nikkei, one of the most interesting restaurants to open in Funchal. The suites are large enough for families or for two couples travelling together, and the position is walkable for Funchal with the whole island within a day trip.

A note on experience

This suits you if you want the service of a small hotel and the facilities of a large one. Arrive to a private welcome at the airport, hand the week’s plans to your assistant, and spend the days between the 17th floor pool and whichever of the Savoy Palace restaurants appeals that evening. Book the Laurea Spa early in the stay rather than late, and give Nikkei a night of its own. Best for couples, honeymooners and anyone marking an occasion, with Funchal on the doorstep and Madeira’s forest, coast and vineyards a short drive away.
