Architect-Designed Treehouses in Swedish Lapland

In the forest village of Harads in Swedish Lapland, Treehotel is a landscape hotel of individually architect-designed treerooms suspended among the pines, with a historic guesthouse restaurant and year-round Arctic adventures including the northern lights.

Sleeping in the treetops above the Lule River

Treehotel sits in the small village of Harads in Swedish Lapland, in tall pine forest above the Lule River, a landscape hotel where each room is a treeroom suspended four to ten metres above the ground. There are nine treerooms, each designed by a different Nordic architect, from the mirrored Mirrorcube and the spherical Biosphere by Bjarke Ingels Group to the Bird’s Nest, the UFO, the Snohetta-designed 7th Room and the Blue Cone, reached by ramp, bridge or stairs.

A short walk away, the historic 1930s Guesthouse holds reception and the restaurant, where head chef Linus Lejon cooks hyper-local, microseasonal Swedish Lapland dishes, from a gastronomic tasting menu to a three-course dinner, with wine pairings. There is a bookable forest spa experience rather than a full spa. The setting is built for the outdoors, with northern-lights hunts and bonfire evenings, dog sledding, moose and reindeer safaris, snowmobiling and ice fishing in winter, and kayaking, foraging and midnight-sun paddling in summer. It suits couples and design and nature-minded travellers who want a bucket-list architecture-and-aurora stay in the Arctic.
