Santani sits on a former tea estate in the hills near Kandy, set between the hills and rainforest at the edge of the Knuckles range, and describes itself as Sri Lanka’s only wellness resort. The design is minimalist and rooted in the Sri Lankan ambalama, a traditional traveller’s rest, with 16 mountain-view chalets and four garden chalets plus villas, deliberately without televisions to encourage a digital detox. The focus is wellbeing: a spa with a thermal salt bath, steam room and sauna, twice-daily yoga, daily guided nature walks, and a long list of personalised programmes from detox and sleep to Ayurveda and stress management, with an Ayurvedic doctor and resident healers. Dining follows the Rasa Haya philosophy of six balanced tastes, served as gourmet wellness cuisine. Stays are full-board. It suits couples and solo travellers who want a genuine, nature-led wellness retreat rather than a conventional hotel.
