Turtle Inn sits on the beach at the tip of the Placencia Peninsula in southern Belize, with the Caribbean Sea, the cayes and the UNESCO-listed Belize Barrier Reef to the east and the lagoon and Maya Mountains to the west, reached via Belize City and Placencia. Found by Francis and Eleanor Coppola in 2001, it is a barefoot-luxury hideaway of around 28 thatched, open-air dwellings in hand-carved Balinese wood with private decks, from garden and seafront cottages and villas to Sofia’s Beach House and Francis’ Family Pavilion. Dining spans the candlelit seafood Mare, the Gauguin Grill, the Belizean Auntie Luba’s Kitchen, a Napoli-style Pizzeria, the Wine Aquarium and the Laughing Fish Bar. There is the Sunset Spa in an open-air Balinese rice house specialising in Thai massage, two infinity pools including an adults-only pool, a gym and a dive shop. Experiences span snorkelling, diving, kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing, pickleball and a conservation programme, with a walk into Placencia village and combinations with Blancaneaux.
