A 15th-Century Venetian Palace

In Cannaregio, Orient Express Venezia is a 15th-century palace reborn as a hotel, with 47 rooms and suites, dining led by chef Heinz Beck and a hammam-inspired spa, due to open in 2026.

A restored palace in Cannaregio

Orient Express Venezia occupies Palazzo Dona Giovannelli, a palace built in 1436 in the Cannaregio district, where two canals meet. After an eight-year restoration led by designer Aline Asmar d’Amman, it becomes a hotel for the first time in around six centuries, retaining frescoes, Murano glass, a Neo-Gothic staircase and a Gothic facade. There are 47 rooms and suites, from compact classics to six signature suites, with Art Deco touches and butler service. Dining is led by three-Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck, with a gastronomic restaurant, an all-day Venetian room and garden, and an Art Deco cocktail bar themed on the Orient Express. The spa draws on Roman, Venetian and Ottoman traditions, with historic event salons completing the palace. Please note the hotel is due to open in 2026. It suits couples and design-led travellers who want history and craft in a quieter corner of Venice.

Dining

Dining is led by three-Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck. Heinz Beck Venezia is the intimate gastronomic restaurant, blending his cooking with Venetian tradition, while La Casati is the all-day option, with a relaxed Venetian room and a garden serving cicchetti and seasonal dishes.

The Wagon Bar is a cocktail bar set in an Art Deco space styled after an Orient Express carriage, with cicchetti, aperitifs and signature cocktails.
